GENERAL PURPOSE:

This Senior Corporate Attorney position will provide advice and counsel to the company’s business units and functions in the field of labor and employment laws. This position will serve as an integral member of the Legal and Human Resource teams to help identify and manage legal risks, and provide training and counsel for risk avoidance to the company. This position reports to the General Counsel of the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Advise HR and senior management  on a full range of employment and labor laws such as FMLA-ADA, FLSA, Title VII, NLRA and other related laws.  

• Identify and assess legal risk and opportunities within business processes and policies.

• Manage the company’s affirmative action program.

• Draft employment related documents including employment and separation agreements.

• Develop and assist with the implementation of HR policies to ensure legal compliance.   

• Conduct and/or advise on compliance-related investigations.

• Develop and provide training to HR partners to develop the team’s legal compliance knowledge and skill.

• Manage employment related claims and litigation, including managing outside counsel, responding to administrative charges, complaints, attorney’s letters, settlement demands and claims.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school

Years of Experience: 5-7 years of substantive experience in a reputable law firm, in-house law department or both in handling employment and labor matters

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Manage employment related claims and litigation, including managing outside counsel, responding to administrative charges, complaints, attorney’s letters, settlement demands and claims.

• Excellent negotiation, leadership, organizational, presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Experience in counseling corporate clients on employment matters. 

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. 

• Ability to spot legal issues and offer effective, practical and appropriate business and legal solutions.

• Ability to efficiently and effectively partner with cross-functional team members

• Experience with manufacturing and/or food company a plus.
