We are seeking a talented, creative and data driven Category Advisor who will take the lead and drive strategic initiatives that will transform the category's performance. We are looking for category management skills including big picture thinker, story-telling abilities, with an openness, and excitement to dive deep into the data. You will work cross functionally (both internally and externally) to develop, draw, and execute planograms with high-level strategies that maximizes sales and profitability. This is an exciting role where you will have all advisory deliverables including support of all relays, category analytics and thought leadership.
Responsibilities:
- The Advisor presents expert, non-biased category insights with objectivity and the highest level of integrity. Responsible for driving category growth at Walmart in the categories for which Schwan’s has category advisory status.
- Proactively identifies business opportunities and proposes both strategic and tactical solutions. Utilizes fact-based data measures to develop solutions focused on category management basics: market shares, opportunity gaps, volumetric trends, trade promotion factors, pricing, and distribution
- Prepares assortment optimization analysis, merchandising effectiveness & efficiency measures. Analyzes and proposes shelf position changes to maximize schematic key metrics
- Leverage syndicated data to provide key industry and department/category insights and conduct market specific assessments of competitors, vendors, and customers to support decisions and influence management
- Lead and manage diverse complex projects including improving capabilities and efficiency of workstreams, provide insightful perspective and thought leadership to key customer stakeholders, work with solution and data providers to improve capabilities and execution of deliverables
- Provide performance insights, actionable reporting and analysis of Retailer and the overall marketplace, both tracked and untracked, to influence decisions and strategies to grow the category.
- Assist with the modular relay process to ensure space optimization. Including but not limited to sales per linear foot, space to sales, inventory, POD’s, recommending adjacencies, space increases or decreases in Remodels and Project stores. Provide post modular analysis of brands’ performance.
- Must be a self-starter who can proactively anticipate the business needs of the Buying Team and provide recommendations to grow sales and has strong problem-solving skills.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience in a role involving Category analysis and strategy
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s preferred
- 5+ years’ experience involving category management and strategy within the CPG industry, ideally in food
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Maintain standardized reporting via Luminate, Circana (IRi) and Numerator to understand business drivers.
- Ability to create reports in Excel from multiple data sources and synthesize the insights into fact-based recommendations via PowerPoint presentations
- Experience and working knowledge of secondary research, market research methodologies and processes. Additionally, understand and seek to document causal influences & social trends.
- Proficiency in using category management tools and software including Circana (IRi), JDA Space Planning, Numerator, and Space Automation tools.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
